biodiversidade

Climatic conditions make ecosystems and biodiversity, both flora and fauna, to be very diverse.

The floristic distribution go along with climatic influences, divided into three primary types: Atlantic and European in the north and Mediterranean in the south.
In the north there is a vast wealth and variability, while the south the ecological niches are filled by plants more specific and specially adapted to the greater dryness of the climate and poor soils.

On Fauna the diversity and multiplicity are slogans, much due to the country's geographical situation and the Iberian Peninsula where it belongs. This location makes it a vital migration platform of birds from northern Europe to northern Africa. Thus, it joins to all autochthonous birds all migrants, greatly raising the country's ornithological interest.

Portugal is still habitat for colonies of wolf and iberian lynx, fox and european rabbit.

The vast coastline and sea area of the country also provide it with a rich diversity of fish and crustaceans.
